240 – Al-Mufaḍḍal ibn Ghassān narrated to me; Muṣʿab ibn ʿAbd-Allāh narrated to us; al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn ʿUthmān, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī l-Zinād, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥārith, from his grandfather ʿAbd-Allāh ibn ʿAyyāsh, reported:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, entered one of the houses of the family of Abū Rabīʿah—either to visit someone who was ill or for some other reason. Asmāʾ bint al-Makhraba ibn Ubayr ibn Nahshal ibn Dārim ibn Mālik ibn Ḥanẓala—she was the mother of Abū Jahl and of ʿAyyāsh ibn Abī Rabīʿah and was known by her kunyah, Umm al-Julās—said to him, “Messenger of Allah, will you not leave me some advice?”
He replied, “O Umm al-Julās, go to your sister with whatever you would like to come to you, and love for your sister what you would love to find.”
After that a small child was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in ʿAyyāsh’s house. Umm al-Julās ⦗407⦘ had mentioned to him that the boy was suffering from some illness. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ began to recite a healing supplication (ruqya) over the child, blowing lightly upon him, and the child in turn blew upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Some of the family started to rebuke the child, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ restrained them from doing so.
