238 – Muʾammal ibn Hishām narrated to us; Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUlayyah narrated to us, from Yūnus, from al-Ḥasan—or from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allah—who said:

“I performed the noon prayer—or it may have been the afternoon prayer—with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. When he concluded the prayer and pronounced the salām, he told us, ‘Remain where you are.’ A clay jar containing some sweetmeat was brought, and he went round to each man, letting him taste a little, a little. When he came to me—I was still a boy—he let me lick some, then asked, ‘Shall I give you more?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ So he let me have another taste because of my youth, and he went on like that until he had reached the last person present.”
