Al-Nafaqa 'ala al-'IyalIbn Abi al-Dunya

219 – Khālid ibn Khidāsh narrated to us; Mahdī ibn Maymūn narrated to us, from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Yaʿqūb, from al-Ḥasan ibn Saʿd—the freedman of al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī—from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaddād, who said:

While the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was leading the people in prayer, al-Ḥasan—or al-Ḥusayn—came up to him. (Mahdī said: I am more inclined to think it was al-Ḥusayn.) The child climbed onto his neck while he was in prostration, and he prolonged the prostration for the congregation until they thought something must have happened. When he finished the prayer they said, “O Messenger of Allah, you prolonged the prostration; we thought something had happened!” He replied, “This son of mine had mounted me, and I disliked to hurry him until he had finished his need.”
