201 – ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd narrated to us; al-Haytham ibn Ḥammād informed me, saying: A man, while sitting with al-Ḥasan, said to another, “May your little knight be a source of congratulations to you.” Al-Ḥasan replied, “He may never become a knight; he might turn out to be a grocer or a camel-driver. Rather say: ‘May you thank the Bestower, may the gift be blessed for you, may he reach the strength of manhood, and may you be granted his dutifulness.’”
