19 – Isḥāq b. Ismāʿīl narrated to us; Jarīr narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū al-Mukhāriq, who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the Tabūk campaign when one of his she-camels became lame, so he stayed with it for seven days. A strong, sturdy Bedouin youth passed by, herding a small flock of goats. People remarked, “If only this young man’s youth, strength, and vigor were spent in the path of Allah!” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “If he is striving to provide for two elderly parents so as to enrich them, then he is in the path of Allah. If he is striving to provide for his small children, then he is in the path of Allah. If he is striving to maintain himself so that he may be self-sufficient and spare people from his need, then he is in the path of Allah. But if he is striving for show and fame, then he is working for Satan.” ⦗155⦘

20 – Isḥāq narrated to us; Jarīr narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, who said: I was also told this report by al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī, except that al-Ḥasan said: “A she-camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was lost.”
