179 – Saʿid ibn Muhammad al-Jarmi narrated to us; Abu Tumaylah narrated; Husayn ibn Waqid narrated, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Buraydah, who said: I heard my father Buraydah say:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was delivering a sermon when Hasan and Husayn came in, each wearing a small red shirt. They were walking and stumbling. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stepped down from the pulpit, lifted them up, placed them before him, and said:
“Allah has spoken the truth: ‘Your wealth and your children are only a trial’ (al-Taghabun 64:15). I was watching these two little boys walking and tripping, and I could not restrain myself; I broke off my discourse and picked them up.”
١٧٩ - حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْجَرْمِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو تُمَيْلَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبِي بُرَيْدَةَ، يَقُولُ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَخْطُبُنَا فَجَاءَ الْحَسَنُ وَالْحُسَيْنُ عَلَيْهِمَا قَمِيصَانِ أَحْمَرَانِ يَمْشِيَانِ وَيَعْثُرَانِ فَنَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنَ الْمِنْبَرِ فَحَمَلَهُمَا فَوَضَعَهُمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَقَالَ: " صَدَقَ اللَّهُ ﴿إِنَّمَا أَمْوَالُكُمْ وَأَوْلَادُكُمْ فِتْنَةٌ﴾ [التغابن: ١٥] نَظَرْتُ إِلَى هَذَيْنِ الصَّبِيَّيْنِ يَمْشِيَانِ وَيَعْثُرَانِ فَلَمْ أصْبِرْ حَتَّى قَطَعْتُ حَدِيثِي وَرَفَعْتُهُمَا "
