163 – Abu Hisham related to us; Ibn Yaman related to us; he said: I heard Sufyan remark, “There is nothing on earth dearer to me than Saʿid, and there is no one on earth whose death I would welcome more than his.” When Saʿid died, I saw Sufyan weeping, so I said, “You are crying even though you used to wish for his death?” He replied, “I am remembering his words: awjibni (put me under an obligation).”
