Al-Nafaqa 'ala al-'IyalIbn Abi al-Dunya

157 – ʿAmr ibn Bukayr narrated to me, on the authority of a Qurayshi elder, who said:
Al-Ḥajjāj once said to an Anṣārī whose son had died and whom he saw grieving, “Tell me, how deep was your love for your boy?”
He replied, “I never grew weary of gazing at him, and whenever he was away from me I longed for him with an aching heart.”
Al-Ḥajjāj said, “That is exactly how I felt about my son Muḥammad.”
