139 – Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn said: Muḥammad ibn ʿAbbād al-Muhallabī narrated to me, saying, “An old maidservant of ours told me that Hind bint al-Muhallab once remarked: ‘I have seen nothing better—for upright women or wayward ones—than keeping them attached to the calm of their own households. When a woman acquires a husband she is guided and settles down; when she settles down she can be restrained; and once she is restrained she turns to whatever will reform her character.’”
