Al-Nafaqa 'ala al-'IyalIbn Abi al-Dunya

100 – My father narrated to me, from Hisham ibn Muhammad, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Yazid, from Rawh ibn Zinbaʿ, who said: “Muʿawiyah ibn Hudayj once entered upon Muʿawiyah ibn Abi Sufyan, and in front of him sat a small daughter of his. He asked, ‘Who is this?’ He replied, ‘A little daughter of mine.’ He said, ‘Move her away from you, for, by Allah, they give birth to enemies and bring near those who are distant.’ Muʿawiyah answered, ‘Even so, no one tends the sick or mourns the dead as they do.’”}
