Mahdi ibn Hafs narrated to us; Sufyan narrated to us, from Jaʿfar ibn Muhammad, from his father, from Jabir ibn ʿAbd Allah, who said: “ʿAli entered upon ʿUmar—may Allah be pleased with him—while he was lying there covered with a cloak and said, ‘I would not wish to meet Allah with anyone’s scroll of deeds except the scroll of this man who lies shrouded here.’”
