Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī narrated to us; Ibrāhīm ibn al-Ashʿath narrated to us; he said, “I heard al-Fuḍayl ibn ʿIyāḍ say: ‘If the whole world in its entirety were offered to me—lawful, with the assurance that I would not be called to account for it in the Hereafter—I would still go on finding it repulsive, just as one of you recoils from a decaying carcass when he passes by it, fearing that it might soil his clothes.’”
