77 – Ahmad ibn Ibrahim related to us; Abu ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUbaydah related to us; Yahya ibn Rashid related to us; Murajjaʾ ibn Wadiʿ al-Rasibiyy related to us. He said: We visited ʿAtaʾ al-Sulaymi while he was stoking a fire under his cooking-pot. One of us asked him, “O ʿAtaʾ, would you be pleased to be burned in this fire and never be resurrected?” He replied, “And would you believe me? By Allah, I would dearly love to be burned in it, then taken out, then burned again, then taken out, then burned once more—so long as I would never be resurrected.”
