74 – Muhammad ibn al-Husayn related to me; Abu Salamah Musa ibn Ismaʿil related to me; Hazm narrated to us, saying: I heard Malik ibn Dinar say,
“It would not make me happy to own everything from the Bridge all the way to Khurasan for the price of a single dung pellet”—and at times he would say, “for a single date-stone.” He also said, “Nor would it please me to own everything from the Khayl Canal to Ubulla for a dung pellet”—and sometimes he would say, “for a date-stone.” Then he would turn to us and declare, “By Allah, if this worldly gain were all that I wanted from you, I would indeed be wretched.”
