72 – ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Ibrāhīm al-Darāwardī narrated to us; Yaḥyā ibn Kathīr narrated to us; Yaḥyā ibn Kathīr al-ʿAnbarī narrated to us; ʿAlī ibn Masʿadah al-Bāhilī narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Rūmī narrated: ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “If I were made to stand between Paradise and Hell and were given the choice either to be reduced to ashes or to decide which of the two abodes I would enter, I would choose to become ashes.”
٧٢ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّرَاوَرْدِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مَسْعَدَةَ الْبَاهِلِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الرُّومِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ ﵁: «لَوْ وُقِفْتُ بَيْنَ الْجَنَّةِ وَالنَّارِ، فَخُيِّرْتُ بَيْنَ أَنْ أُصَيَّرَ رَمَادًا، أَوْ أُخَيَّرَ إِلَى أَيِّ الدَّارَيْنِ أَصِيرُ، لَاخْتَرْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ رَمَادًا»
