69 – Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to me; al-Ḥumaydī narrated to us; from Sufyān, who said: ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz once heard a man say, “By Allah, ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz has dealt justly with the umma.” Hearing this, ʿUmar wept and replied, “By Allah, I only wish it were as you claim—and who will vouch for ʿUmar regarding what you have said? May Allah have mercy on you.”
