Al-MutamanninIbn Abi al-Dunya

68 – Muhammad ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to me; Muhammad ibn Muʿāwiya al-Azraq al-Nawwāʾ (the rope-seller) narrated to me; one of our companions narrated to me, saying:

I asked ʿAṭāʾ al-Sulaymī, “What do you long for?”

He answered, “I long to weep until I can weep no more.”

And so he would weep night and day, his tears constantly flowing down his face.
