48 – Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā ibn Abī Ḥātim al-Azdī narrated to us; al-Ḥasan ibn Mālik narrated to us; Bakr the Devout narrated to us, who said: “There was a worshipper from Syria who had driven himself to extremes in his acts of devotion. His mother said to him, ‘My son, you have done what no one else has done. Will you not lie down and rest?’ He turned to her, weeping, and replied, ‘If only you had been barren of me, for your little son faces a long confinement in the grave.’”
