46 – ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated to me; Ḥafṣ ibn Ghiyāth narrated to us; from Ashʿath, from al-Ḥasan, who said:
When ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ lay on his death-bed, he looked at several chests and then said to his sons, “Who will take them from me with everything they contain? If only it were nothing but dung!” He then ordered the guards, and they surrounded his palace.
His sons asked, “What is this about?” He answered, “Do you not see that all of this will avail me nothing?”
