4 – Abū ʿAmr al-Fayḍ ibn Wathīq narrated to us; Abū ʿUbādah ⦗21⦘ al-Anṣārī narrated to me in the year 177 AH—an elder from among the people of Medina; Ibn Shihāb al-Zuhrī informed me, from ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah, who said:

The Prophet ﷺ said to Jābir, “Shall I not give you glad tidings, Jābir?” He replied, “Yes indeed—may Allah gladden you with goodness!” The Prophet continued, “Allah—exalted is He—revived your father and seated him before Him. He then said, ‘My servant, ask of Me whatever you wish and I shall grant it.’ He answered, ‘My Lord, I have not worshipped You as You truly deserve. I ask that You return me to the world so I may fight alongside Your Prophet and be killed for Your sake once more.’ Allah said, ‘The decree has already gone forth from Me that you shall not return to it.’”
