29 – Salama ibn Shabib narrated to me; Sahl ibn ʿĀṣim narrated to us, from one of his teachers, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Wāʾil, who said:
When death approached Bishr ibn Marwān he exclaimed, “By Allah, I wish I had been ⦗34⦘ an Abyssinian slave owned by the worst household in Medina, tending their sheep for them, and that I had never occupied the station I held.”
Shaqīq then said, “Praise be to Allah who makes them flee to us and not us to them. They indeed find in us lessons, while we behold in them the vicissitudes of fortune.”
