28 – Saʿīd ibn Yaḥyā al-Umawī narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Ibn Jurayj narrated to us, from Ibn Abī Mulaykah, who said: I saw ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Marwān when death overtook him, and he kept saying: “If only I had never been anything worth mentioning! If only I were like this flowing water, or like a plant that springs from the earth, or a shepherd tending a small flock on the outskirts of the Ḥijāz, from the Banū Naṣr ibn Muʿāwiyah or the Banū Saʿd ibn Bakr.”
