143 – ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd narrated to us; Shuʿbah informed us, through ʿAmr ibn Murrah al-Hamdānī, who said: ʿAbd Allāh once wished death for his family and for himself. He was asked, “You have wished death for your family, but why for yourself?” He replied, “Had I been sure that you would remain as you now are, I would have wished to go on living,” and the narrator added that he specified a span of twenty years.
