Al-MutamanninIbn Abi al-Dunya

122 – Muhammad ibn Masʿūd narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Razzāq informed us, saying: Whenever Sufyān al-Thawrī was burdened with sorrow, he would throw himself down beside Wuhayb. On one such occasion he said to him, “Abū Umayyah, do you know anyone who wishes for death?” Wuhayb replied, “As for me, I do not.” Sufyān said, “As for me—by Allah—I would love to die; by Allah, I would love to die!” He said it three times.
