118 – I was informed by al-Muthannā ibn Muʿādh; al-Haytham ibn ʿUbayd al-Sayd narrated to us. He said ⦗72⦘:
“My father once performed the pilgrimage with Yazīd al-Raqāshī, travelling alongside him all the way to Mecca. My father said, ‘More than once he and I would ride together in the mahmal (palanquin) at the very start of the night, after we had prayed the ʿatama (night prayer). As we passed by a mountain, he would say, “O mountain, one day you will be reduced to scattered dust—this will happen, and that will happen—yet the reckoning will still be upon Yazīd.” Then he would weep, and I would hear his sobbing without pause until the break of dawn.’”
