111 – Aḥmad ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us; ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Taymī narrated to us; Nuʿaym ibn Muwarriʿ narrated to me, saying: ⦗70⦘
I once visited ʿAṭāʾ al-Sulaymī with several of our companions. We found an old man, his eyes bleary, wearing a wool cloak and lying on a small patch of sand before his door. By Allah, he kept tossing about on it, saying, “Woe to ʿAṭāʾ! Would that ʿAṭāʾ’s mother had never given birth to him.” He remained like that—by Allah—until we saw the sun dipping toward the horizon. Remembering how far our homes were, we rose and left him.
