110 – Aḥmad ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us; Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Marwān narrated to me:
I was present when ʿAṭāʾ al-Sulaymī was wishing for death. ʿAṭāʾ al-Azraq said to him, “Do not wish for death, for Qatādah has related to us that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ‘Let no one wish for death.’ ”
ʿAṭāʾ replied, “Life is only sought by the one whose good deeds are increasing; but as for the one whose evil only grows, what use does he have for living?”
