102 – Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; Shuʿbah ibn Muḥammad al-Bazzār narrated to me; Muṭahhar ibn Sulaym narrated to me. He said: Dāwūd al-Ṭāʾī used to say, “Never have I asked Allah for Paradise without feeling ashamed before Him; rather, I would be content merely to be spared from the Fire and then turned to ashes.” He also said, “We have grown weary of life because of the multitude of sins we keep committing.”
