63 – Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Khathʿamī recited to me, on the authority of Ibn ʿĀʾishah, the following lines by Ismāʿīl ibn Yasār:
In the bloom of youth I idled away my days
With graceful, soft-skinned companions of my own age.
Then I bridled that youth with forbearance
Until grey hairs came to rest where youth once dwelt.
So my impetuous urge subsided, my ignorance waned,
And those who used to chide me found respite from their blame.
