5 – Al-Muthannā ibn Muʿādh narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us, from Sufyān al-Thawrī, from Abū Rabāḥ, from Mujāhid, who said: “The first person to apply black dye was Pharaoh. His wife remarked, ‘That will do—provided it does not fade.’”
٥ - حَدَّثَنَا الْمُثَنَّى بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَالَ: " أَوَّلُ مَنْ خَضَبَ بِالسَّوَادِ فِرْعَوْنُ، فَقَالَتْ لَهُ امْرَأَتُهُ: ذَاكَ إِنْ لَمْ يَنْصُلْ "
