29 – Muhammad ibn Nasr ibn al-Walid narrated to me; al-Asmaʿi narrated to us, saying: “Sulayman ibn ʿAbd al-Malik entered the mosque and noticed a very old man. He summoned him and asked, ‘Old man, do you yearn for death?’ He replied, ‘No.’ He asked, ‘Why?’ ⦗58⦘ He said, ‘Youth—with all its mischief—has gone, and old age—with all its goodness—has arrived. Whenever I stand I say bismillah (in the name of Allah), and whenever I sit I say al-hamdu lillah (praise be to Allah). So I hope that this state will remain with me.’
