86 — Suwayd ibn Saʿīd narrated to me: Marwān ibn Muʿāwiya narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid, from Tāriq ibn Shihāb, who said: “Solomon son of David—peace be upon him—sent out one of his formidable jinn and dispatched a group of men to observe what it said and report back to him. They told him that it had passed through the marketplace, raised its head toward the sky, then looked at the people and shook its head. Solomon asked it why it had done so. It replied, ‘I was amazed at the angels above the people’s heads—how swiftly they record—and at those beneath them—how swiftly they dictate!’”
