741 — Abd Allah ibn Muhammad related to me, saying: I heard Makkī ibn Ibrāhīm say: “We were with Ibn Awn when Bilāl ibn Abī Burda was mentioned. They began cursing and speaking ill of him, while Ibn Awn remained silent. They said to him, ‘Abū Awn, will you not speak of him after what he did to you?’ Ibn Awn replied, ‘Only two utterances can come forth from my record on the Day of Resurrection: “There is no deity except Allah,” and “May Allah curse [him].” I would rather “There is no deity except Allah” come forth from my record than “May Allah curse him.”’”
٧٤١ - وَحَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مَكِّيَّ بْنَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، قَالَ: كُنَّا عِنْدَ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ فَذَكَرُوا بِلَالَ بْنَ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، فَجَعَلُوا يَلْعَنُونَهُ وَيَقَعُونَ فِيهِ وَابْنُ عَوْنٍ سَاكِتٌ، فَقَالُوا لَهُ: يَا أَبَا عَوْنٍ، أَمَا تَذْكُرْهُ لِمَا ارْتَكَبَ مِنْكَ؟ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَوْنٍ: " إِنَّمَا هُمَا كَلِمَتَانِ تَخْرُجَانِ مِنْ صَحِيفَتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ: لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ. فَلَأَنْ يَخْرُجَ مِنْ صَحِيفَتِي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ يَخْرُجَ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ "
