734 — Al-Abbās ibn Jafar related to me: Muhammad ibn Saīd related to us, from Abū Bakr ibn Ayyāsh, from Āsim, who said: A man asked al-Rabī ibn Khuthaym, “What keeps you from quoting a line of poetry when your companions used to do so?” He replied, “No one utters a word without it being recorded and then presented to him on the Day of Resurrection. By Allah, I would hate to read a line of poetry in my record on the Day of Resurrection.”
