730 — Al-Fadl ibn Ishāq related to me: Abū Qutaybah related to us, from Nāfi ibn Umar, from Amr ibn Dīnār, who reported that a poet spoke in the presence of the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and went on at length. He asked, “How many barriers stand before your tongue?” The poet replied, “My teeth and my lips.” He said, “Was there not enough in these to restrain some of your speech? Indeed, some eloquence is surely magic.”
