He said: One of the sages also said, “I count the speech I cannot avoid as a calamity that has befallen me, and I seek Allah’s aid to emerge from it unharmed. I count my silence about what does not concern me as a gain and a fresh blessing for which I endeavor to give thanks, for I know that behind every word stands a watcher at the ready. I regard whatever speech you are compelled to utter as a calamity that has befallen you, and whatever speech I am spared as an effortless gain.”
