70 — Alī ibn al-Jad narrated to us: Abū Muāwiya informed us, from Muhammad ibn Amr ibn ⦗75⦘ Alqama, from his father, from his grandfather, Alqama ibn Waqqās, from Bilāl ibn al-Hārith al-Muzanī ⦗76⦘—may Allah be pleased with him—from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: “A man may utter a word that earns Allah’s pleasure, never imagining the extent it will reach, and because of it Allah records His pleasure for him until the Day he meets Him. And a man may utter a word that incurs Allah’s wrath, never imagining the extent it will reach, and because of it Allah records His wrath against him until the Day of Resurrection.” He said: Alqama used to say, “How many words the hadith of Bilāl ibn al-Hārith—may Allah be pleased with him—has restrained me from uttering!”
