Al-Samt wa-Adab al-LisanIbn Abi al-Dunya

686 — Al-Fadl ibn al-Sabbāh narrated to me: Abū Qutayba narrated to us, from al-Mas‘ūdī, from ‘Awn ibn ‘Abd Allāh—may Allah have mercy on him—who said: “Do not say, ‘We have entered the morning, and dominion has become Allah’s.’ Rather say, ‘We have entered the morning, and dominion belongs to Allah.’ Nor should a man, when asked about another man, say, ‘I have no recent knowledge of him,’ unless he qualifies it by adding, ‘since I last saw him.’”
