648 — Abū Bakr ibn Sahl related to us: Ibn Abī Maryam related to us: Yahyā ibn Ayyūb informed us: Ibn ʿAjlān related to us, from Ziyād, the freedman of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿĀmir, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿĀmir ibn Rabīʿa, who heard him say: “The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—entered upon my mother while I was a young boy. I turned to leave, so my mother called to me, ‘ʿAbd Allāh, come and take this!’ The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—asked, ‘What do you intend to give him?’ She replied, ‘I intend to give him some dates.’ He said, ‘Indeed, had you not done so, a lie would have been recorded against you.’”
