635 — Muhammad also related to me: al-Humaydī related to me, on the authority of Sufyān—may Allah have mercy on him—who said: People gathered around al-Qāsim ibn Muhammad—may Allah have mercy on him—concerning some alms he had distributed. He said: He was praying, and they began talking. His son said, “You have gathered around a man who, by Allah, did not take from it so much as a dirham or a sixth of a dirham.” He said: Al-Qāsim then shortened his prayer and said, “My son, speak only of what you know.” Sufyān said, “His son had spoken the truth, but he wanted to teach him discipline and restraint in speech.”
