Al-Samt wa-Adab al-LisanIbn Abi al-Dunya

628 — Hamza related to me: Abdān ibn Uthmān informed us: Abd Allah informed us: Mamar informed us, from Yahyā ibn al-Mukhtār, from al-Hasan, may Allah have mercy on him, who said:

“Whenever you wish, you will find him fair-skinned and fresh-complexioned, sharp-tongued and keen-eyed, yet dead in heart and deed. You know him better than he knows himself. You see bodies but no hearts, and hear a voice but find no companionable soul—the most prolific tongues and the most barren hearts.”
