625 — Hamza also related to me: Abdān informed us: Abd Allah informed us: Rishdīn ibn Sad informed us, from Amr ibn al-Hārith, from Abd al-Karīm ibn al-Hārith, from Qays ibn Rāfi, may Allah have mercy on him, who said:

A group of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, gathered in the presence of Ibn Abbās, may Allah be pleased with him and his father. They spoke together about goodness and were deeply moved, while Wāqid ibn al-Hārith remained silent. They said, “Abū al-Hārith, will you not speak?”

He replied, “You have spoken and said enough.”

They said, “Speak! By my life, you are not the youngest among us.”

He then said, “I hear words—the words of one who is afraid; yet when I look at the deeds, they are the deeds of one who feels secure.”
