603 — Ya‘qūb ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us: Ibn Abī Ghaniya narrated to us: My father narrated to me, saying: Umar ibn al-Khattāb (may Allah be pleased with him) heard a man praising another man, so he asked, “Have you traveled with him?” He replied, “No.” He asked, “Have you had close dealings with him?” He replied, “No.” He said, “By Allah, besides whom there is no deity, you do not know him.”
