62 — Dāwūd ibn Amr al-Dabbī narrated to me: Abd Allah ibn al-Mubārak narrated to us: Ibn Awn informed us, from al-Hasan—may Allah be pleased with him—who said: They were speaking in the presence of Muāwiyah—may Allah be pleased with him—while al-Ahnaf remained silent. They asked, “Why do you not speak, Abū Bahr?” He replied, “I fear Allah if I lie, and I fear you if I tell the truth.”
