595 — Khalaf ibn Hishām narrated to us: Hazm narrated to us, saying: I heard al-Hasan say: ʿUmar ibn al-Khattāb—may Allah be pleased with him—passed by with al-Jārūd accompanying him. He heard someone say, “This is the chief of Rabīʿa.” So ʿUmar struck al-Jārūd with his whip and said, “You certainly heard that.”
