542 — Ahmad ibn Manī narrated to us: Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us: al-Masūdī informed us, from Abū Ishāq, from Abū al-Ahwas, from Abdullah—may Allah be pleased with him—who said: “By Him in whose hand is my soul, Allah has never permitted lying, whether in earnest or in jest, nor may a man promise his child something and then fail to fulfill it. Read, if you wish: ‘Fear Allah and be with those who are truthful’ [al-Tawbah: 119].”
