541 — Ahmad ibn Manīʿ narrated to us: Husayn ibn Muhammad narrated to us: Isrāʾīl narrated to us, from Abū Ishāq, from Abū al-Ahwas, from ʿAbd Allāh—may Allah be pleased with him—who said: “Indeed, the worst reports are false reports. Indeed, no form of lying is acceptable, whether in earnest or in jest; nor is it acceptable for a man to promise his child something and then fail to fulfill it. Indeed, lying leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire. Indeed, truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. It is said of the truthful person, ‘He spoke the truth and acted righteously,’ and of the liar, ‘He lied and acted wickedly.’”
