Al-Samt wa-Adab al-LisanIbn Abi al-Dunya

525 — Muhammad ibn Abī ʿUmar al-Makkī and Sufyān ibn Wakīʿ narrated to us. They said: Ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us from a man—Sufyān said: from al-Mājishūn—who said: ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, may Allah have mercy on him, spoke to al-Walīd about a matter, whereupon al-Walīd said to him, “You are lying.” ʿUmar replied, “I have not lied since I learned that lying disgraces the one who does it.”
