518 — Ahmad ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us: Bahz ibn Asad narrated to us: Shuʿbah narrated to us: Abū Ishāq narrated to us, saying: I heard Abū al-Ahwas relate that ʿAbd Allāh—may Allah be pleased with him—used to say that Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—would say: “Shall I tell you about calumny? It is tale-bearing—carrying talk between people. The worst things one can devise are lies. Lying is not acceptable, whether in earnest or in jest; nor should any of you promise a child something and then fail to fulfil it.”
