511 — Ishāq ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us: Abū ʿUbayda al-Haddād informed us, from Saʿīd ibn Yazīd, who said: I heard al-Shaʿbī recite these lines:

[al-Kāmil meter]

You are the very model of a noble man—
If you are truthful in what you say.

No good lies in a generous man’s falsehood;
How excellent is a miser’s honesty!
